On the 24th of Calistril, the Brevic city of Restov witnessed a gathering of various mercenaries, rogues and adventurers. Although it was snowing some hundred Restovians came to the city’s market square to see the third and fourth Reclamation parties to be send off to the Stolen Lands. The day before, two groups had left for, respectively, the Glenebon Uplands and The Slough, to reclaim those lands for Rostland and the Brevic Crown. Today, two parties were assembled to venture into the regions that lie to the south and south west of Restov.
Swordlord Jamandi Aldori had called forth Captain Maegar Varn, a lesser Swordlord, and his Varnling Host to explore the Nomen Heights. He left with some fifteen experienced warriors. The last group to be sent away consisted of ruffians led by a Captain Ivan Ivanovitch, a middle-aged,scarred, and one-eyed human who looked more like a thug than a guard officer. The party was to explore The Greenbelt and given a royal charter, which read:
Be it so known that the bearer of this charter has been charged by the Swordlords of Restov, acting upon the greater good and authority vested within them by the office of the Regent of the Dragonscale Throne, has granted the right of exploration and travel within the wilderness region known as the Greenbelt. Exploration should be limited to an area no further than thirty-six miles east and west and sixty miles south of Oleg’s Trading Post. The carrier of this charter should also strive against banditry and other unlawful behavior to be encountered. The punishment for unrepentant banditry remains, as always, execution by sword or rope. So witnessed on this 24th day of Calistril, under watchful eye of the Lordship of Restov and authority granted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of the Dragonscale Throne.
Among the party of twenty, was a young and fiery halfling called Milo, an elderly human called Emrys Cadarn, a stout dwarf female called Hegelinde Stonemark, a slender middle-aged elf called Lanliss, and a robust female half-orc called Neega Black. A curious lot, they soon bonded in the face of Ivan Ivanovitch’s suspicious behavior. In the Bouncy Boar tavern they heard strange tales about their captain, and, acting on their gut feeling, they decided to investigate their untrustworthy leader. It seemed that Ivan Ivanovitch owned a slaughterhouse in the city with a bad reputation, and the party thought it best to explore the building.
Boldly the group sneaked inside, overhearing Ivan Ivanovitch plan to leave without them in the morrow, thus undertaking the mission to the Greenbelt with only his own trustees. However, before they could find out anything more about Ivan Ivanovitch clearly devious plans, they were discovered and a battle ensued…
